Attention is centered on the complex experiences of young Chinese women navigating the tension between self-expression and societal expectations.
Collaborative photography serves as a lens through which their narratives are explored, capturing the essence of their experiences and emotions.
In China, cultural norms often dictate women to be submissive and subordinate, fostering an atmosphere of pervasive oppression as they mature. Despite the weight of societal expectations and relentless scrutiny, these women find intrinsic satisfaction in expressing their true selves, even as they are compelled to conform to roles that do not fully reflect their identities.Collaborating through the lens of photography, Selina delves into the narratives of nine young Chinese women. Each image highlights the creativity and expression of the individual photographed. Through the artistry of poetic composition and delicate lighting, Selina portrays the vulnerability of the subjects, revealing the diversity within young Chinese women. Subsequently, the exhibit utilizes the format of a photographic diary to present the nuances expressed through their words and gaze.
